Principal News | Mr Adam Montgomery

Welcome to another edition of our newsletter from Glenview State School where our students are HAPPY, SAFE, HEALTHY and PROUD.
Welcome to another edition of our newsletter from Glenview State School where our students are HAPPY, SAFE, HEALTHY and PROUD.
Term 4 is always a busy term and we definitely have a lot on. We have had a week of swimming in the P-3 classes last week and shortly our Yr 4-6 students will be going to surf skills (Starting 24 Nov) I am looking forward to celebrating our students learning at our Arts Night (5 Nov) Christmas Carols (28 Nov) and Yr 6 Graduation. We also will be preparing for next year and will be holding our Prep Transition Morning as well as speeches and elections for the 2026 Glenview State School Ambassadors, House Captains and Student Council.
Our next Working Bee will be held on Sunday 26 October from 8:00-11:00. We’ll be painting the timber surrounds underneath the classrooms with timber stain. If you’re able to lend a hand, please complete the attached survey to let us know your availability and interest. There will be a sausage sizzle provided by the P&C. Your support makes a huge difference, and we’d love to have you join us! Please click the link to register.
We love having volunteers in the school but please be aware that the Queensland Blue Card laws have changed. We have provided a quick overview of the new requirements for parents later on in this edition of the newsletter.
The first two weeks of this term have really flown by and I am always heartened to walk through classrooms and seeing the students learning and having fun.
Last week we held our 2nd last P&C meeting for the year and once again it was a very productive meeting with some great outcomes for our staff and students $4500 donated for new library furniture $700 donated for materials for a working bee to be held on Sun 26 Oct 8-11AM (Plan is to stain all the timber under B, C, D, E Blocks) P&C will provide a breakfast for staff on Word Teacher’s Day- October 31. Tuckshop will be holding a trial from Week 4 operating 5 days/ week.
Finally, I would just like to thank all members of the Glenview School Community for their support. I am looking forward to a really positive and productive finish to the term and the school year.
Regards, Adam

Premier’s Reading Challenge
Certificates to recognise all of our Premier's Reading Challenge participants have arrived. Teachers will be handing out these certificates in class over the next few days. Once again, congratulations to everyone who completed the Premier's Reading Challenge this year.
Our second BOOK FAIR for the year is on next week (Week 4). If we sell over $1000 worth of books, we receive 50% of the total we sell back as cash to buy new books for our Library. Please pop in before or after school on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday next week and get a head start on your Christmas shopping!

AUTHOR VISIT - Peter Carnavas
We kicked off our term with an engaging writing workshop from Sunshine Coast author Peter Carnavas. Peter has written over 20 books with his most recent publication Leo and Ralph being used as the mentor text this term in 3/4F. Students enjoyed participating in a range of writing and drawing activities with Peter and learnt some great techniques to use when writing their own narratives this term.
Support Squad
From the start of term 4, each lunchtime, 4 students from Yr 5&6 from the "Support Squad” will look out for their peers. They will be on the oval wearing a vest and be tasked with the following responsibilities:

Jennifer and Ruby from the Support Squad team looking out for preppies Charlotte, Lilah and Sunny

Changes to the Blue Card System
Changes to the Blue Card System – What Parents Need to Know
From 20 September 2025, some important changes to the Blue Card system that could affect parent volunteers at school came into effect.
🔹 What’s Changing?
The parental exemption now only applies to parents volunteering for activities that involve their own child.
This means:
If you're helping out at an event or in a classroom where your child is present, you don’t need a Blue Card.
If you're volunteering at an event that doesn’t involve your child, you will need a Blue Card.
✅ Where You Do and Don’t Need a Blue Card:
Tuckshop: No Blue Card required (still covered under the parental exemption).
Uniform Shop: A Blue Card is required.
- General P&C Meetings (General members only - all the Executive members required a paid Blue Card)
Classroom Help or School Events:
If your child is involved → No Blue Card needed.
If your child is not involved → Blue Card required.
📚 Special Note for Qualified Teachers and Other Exempt Occupations
If you are a qualified teacher working at another school, or if you work in another occupation that exempts you from needing a Blue Card, this exemption applies only while working within that profession's workplace. If you would like to volunteer at school events that do not include your child, you will need to apply for an Exemption Card.
In other words, you are only exempt when working in your professional capacity. Volunteering outside of that role at events where your child is not involved requires a Blue Card or Exemption Card.
📝 Don’t Forget to Sign In
For the safety of all students, all parent volunteers must sign in at the school office when arriving.
We are now required to record details of all volunteers assisting during school time or events, this includes your date of birth. This record will be a register that we are now required to hold on site of all parent volunteers who are exempt from needing a Blue Card.
ℹ️ Other Important Info:
Volunteer Blue Cards are free to apply for, and we encourage you to apply for one.
Once approved, your Blue Card will be linked to the school’s Organisation Portal so we can stay informed about your status.
We really value our wonderful parent volunteers—thank you for helping us keep our school safe and supportive for all students!
If you have any questions or need help applying for a Blue Card or Exemption Card, please contact the school office.

From the Office

QParents
As most of you will know, here at Glenview we use QParents and encourage families to sign up to the app as this is what we use to send out consent requests for our Student Resource Scheme, Media, Online Services, incursions and excursions. Once all set up, it helps us to be environmentally sustainable by reducing the use of paper forms. For you it makes it easy to see old school reports, report a school absence, pay or view invoices and update details. Please see below for a guide on how to set yourself up on the app. If you need any help at all please get in touch, we are always happy to help.
Kidz Bizz OSHC
We are always so excited to receive enrolments at Kidz Bizz, but we do like to ensure that we have all of the correct information so that we are able to support your children and young people. Once your enrolment is complete you will receive a welcome email from us.
