Principal News | Mr Adam Montgomery

Welcome to another edition of our school newsletter as we gear up for another very busy term. The students are very excited to have our first disco of the year this Friday evening. .
Enrolments & Prep Open Morning: This Tuesday 5 August we are holding our second Prep Open Morning from 9:00-10:00 AM. Our new preppies will get to meet our staff including our wonderful specialist staff. If you are interested in your child coming to Prep here at Glenview next year and are interested in coming along we would love to see you. It promises to be a great morning!
As you could appreciate, it really helps our planning if we are aware of your intentions regarding your child's enrolment in 2026. If you have a child that is coming to Prep next year and you haven't let us know or you are intending on leaving the school we would appreciate you letting us know so we can make preparations.
Oztag: Over the weekend I was very fortunate to watch our girls and boys Oztag teams participate in the Oztag All Schools State Cup. I always am impressed by our Glenview State School students and certainly was amazed at the effort, behaviour and sportsmanship these teams demonstrated. I would like to thank the students, Mrs O, parent helpers and the supporters for a positive and successful weekend!
School Opinion Survey: This year’s School Opinion Survey runs from 28 July to 22 August. Parents, carers, students in Yeqar 5 and 6, and staff have been emailed a link to participate. Your feedback will help us understand our school’s strengths and areas for improvement. Survey responses are confidential. Find out more on the School Opinion Survey webpage or contact school administration.
Proposed QTU Industrial Action This afternoon I sent an email with information regarding the proposed 24 hour stoppage from members of the Queensland Teachers Union on Wednesday 6 July. If you have and concerns or questions please contact us
Staffing News: I am thrilled to let the school community know of some staffing updates. -Natalie Sears has taken on the Cluster Deputy Principal of Inclusion role across Glenview, Chevallum, Montville and Eudlo State Schools for the remainder of the year.
Nat is being replaced by Jacqui Messer who has taken on the Learning Engagement (Yr 4-6) role and Pip Morris will be the 3E classroom teacher. Pip was actually a student teacher in the 3E class and we are thrilled that Glenview can be start of her teaching journey.
Thank you all for your support to ensure this semester had a positive start. It is always fantastic to see our students living our values—Happy, Safe, Healthy, and Proud!

Our New Junior Play Are is looking great and is definitely a hit with our P-2 students!!

HOMEWORK SURVEY
This term, we are giving families the opportunity to opt out of homework (spelling and maths) if you feel this is in the best interests of your child. We understand the many pressures of home life and acknowledge the importance of maintaining a healthy work/life balance for both children and families. While homework can be a valuable time to revise and consolidate the learning taking place at school, we also recognise that it may not always be the right fit for every child or household. Your class teacher has recently sent an email home with a link to register your wishes in terms of whether you would like your child to continue with homework or opt out this term. If you require the link to be resent, please contact your child's class teacher.
Please be aware that reading will remain an expectation and continue to be sent home.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
A big shout-out to Tolson, Leeding, and Stevens—you’ve all been doing an amazing job. It’s fantastic to see so many students getting involved and enjoying their reading. This week, it was an incredibly close race, but Leeding has taken the lead—well done!
To make things even more exciting, from now until the end of the challenge, we’ll be awarding a prize to the class that reads the most books each week. As a reward, the class who has read the most will get to choose a poster for their classroom. A huge congratulations goes to our first winning class - 3/4F!
Let’s keep the competition going strong. Every book you read helps your class and your house. So keep it up, and remember to read, read, read! Who will take out the top spot next week?

BOOK WEEK IS COMING!
This year, Book Week is in Week 6 and the theme is Book an Adventure. Our Book Week parade is always a wonderful kaleidoscope of colour and costumes and I'm sure this year will be no different. I would like to extend an invitation to all of our families to join us for our Book Week parade on Tuesday 19th August at 9am. Please note that there will no parade at 2:20 on this day.
ICAS ASSESSMENTS
Over the coming weeks we have some enthusiastic students participating in ICAS assessments. ICAS is an online program that provides the opportunity for students to showcase their skills in - English, Writing, Spelling Bee, Science, Mathematics, and Digital Technologies. If your student has registered for ICAS, you will receive an email by the end of the week with the dates that each assessment is being held. We congratulate all our ICAS participants on their initiative to academically challenge themselves and wish them good luck.
Dates to Remember
Please note that dates are subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances/weather conditions

A Warm Welcome to our New Students

Are you Disco Ready?

Stop Drop and Go Art Competition
At the end of last term, we ran a competition to support our Stop Drop and Go zone process. All students were encouraged to design a poster that could be used to demonstrate how to use the Stop, Drop and Go zone - the winning entries would have their design displayed outside the front of the school in the Stop, Drop and Go zone to help our parents and community use the area successfully. We had lots of wonderful creative entries come in and it was certainly tough to choose! The winning entries were by Elise G, Lola C, Kate G and Melodie S - congratulations on your brilliant designs. The presence of these signs has started to make a difference already! Big shout out to Ash Wanbon for his support and assistance and getting these signs printed for us.

Congratulations to Elise, Lola, Kate and Melodie! Here they are being celebrated on parade.

Student Sporting Success
Glenview State School Makes History at the 2025 All Schools State Cup 2025 marks a milestone for Glenview State School, as we proudly entered two teams in the All-Schools State Cup for the first time ever! Our Year 6 team, led by captain Kate G and coached by Melanie Osborne and Kylie Gurdler, and our Year 5 boys' team, captained by Anzac-Kai and coached by Dameon Langdon, both showcased incredible skill and determination. Throughout the competition on Friday and Saturday, both teams dominated their pools, finishing undefeated in their initial matches. Despite challenging weather conditions, the boys’ team advanced straight into a thrilling semi-final clash against Buddina State School. It was a closely contested match, but Buddina edged out a 6-4 victory in the final moments. Meanwhile, our Year 6 girls team fought hard to reach the quarter-finals, demonstrating fierce defensive play against Coomera Waters State School. Although they fell 1-5 to the strong Gold Coast side, they left the field with their heads held high and gave it their all. Both teams made Glenview State School proud by exhibiting excellent athleticism, sportsmanship, and humility throughout the tournament. Congratulations to all players and coaches on an outstanding effort!

Health - Peaceful Kids Pause (PKP)
Glenview State School implemented the Peaceful Kids Peaceful Classrooms Program in 2023. Following this, the school is now implementing a whole school approach to Mindfulness and Meditation. This takes the form of a daily Peaceful Kids Pause (PKP). All classes, following first break, take five to ten minutes to practice Mindfulness and Meditation, following the guidelines of the Peaceful Kids Program. Here is some information describing the program;
The 'Peaceful Kids' program is a Mindfulness and Positive Psychology based program to lessen anxiety and stress and increase resilience in children. This program helps children to build their emotional resilience so they are better equipped to deal with the day-to-day stresses that life brings them. https://www.peacefulkids.com.au/
Students and families can also access the resources that this great program and website provides by following the link; https://www.peacefulkids.com.au/meditations.html

Step into History Incursion
As part of our year 1 and 2 HASS program, our Junior HASS Coordinator, Mrs Harrison organised a wonderful incursion with 'Step into History', it was a lot of fun and gave the students an opportunity to learn about what it was like to live 'all those years ago'! Students took part in activities that are very different from the way we do them now, a few students have shared their thoughts with us below. Thanks for organising Mrs Harrison!

Classroom News
Each newsletter we will share some of the exciting and interesting activities our students are doing in their classrooms.
Year 6s Retelling History Biographies
In English in Term 2, the Years 6’s were learning about biographies and important people in society. We were excited to choose a significant figure, someone who has made huge contributions to society, and write about them. We celebrated our learning by each creating a unique trifold display and dressing up as our person at our Living Wax Museum. There were some extravagant costumes! It was a great opportunity to have some fun learning about different people from each other as we wandered the museum asking questions.

Year 6 Teachers

From the likes of Taylor Swift, David Attenborough, Harriet Tubman, Albert Einstein, Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia, Cathy Freeman, Dylan Alcott, Eddie Maro, Bear Grylls, Jessica Watson to Nick Vujicic - what a wide variety of choices from this wonderful Year 6 crew!
NAIDOC celebrations
"NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth." (quoted from: https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/naidoc-week) Glenview students celebrated NAIDOC week in variety of ways across the school.

House Keeping Tips from the Office

QParents
As most of you will know, here at Glenview we use QParents and encourage families to sign up to the app as this is what we use to send out consent requests for our Student Resource Scheme, Media, Online Services, incursions and excursions. Once all set up, it helps us to be environmentally sustainable by reducing the use of paper forms. For you it makes it easy to see old school reports, report a school absence, pay or view invoices and update details. Please see below for a guide on how to set yourself up on the app. If you need any help at all please get in touch, we are always happy to help.
