Principal News | Mr Adam Montgomery

Welcome to another edition of our school newsletter in what is a very busy time of the school year. Our students are very busy! We have a number of school events happening before the end of this term.
We’re excited to announce that our brand-new junior playground area is installed and will hopefully open next week! This exciting new space has been designed to support active play, imagination, and social connection for our youngest students. With climbing structures, slides, and play zones, it offers a safe and engaging environment for children to enjoy. We are really looking forward to seeing the smiles and laughter as our students make the most of their fantastic new play area! I want to thank the Glenview P&C for providing $50 000 towards this project, Rod our groundsman for his tireless efforts renovating our old playground and also Leigh Flower who donated his time and machinery to prepare the area.
At our last P&C meeting $10 000 was donated towards the cost of replacing the digital sign on Andersen Oval. I am currently finalising quotes and look forward to seeing this back up and working soon.
Working Bee: We have beautiful grounds here at Glenview and I am really keen to keep improving them. Earlier this week, information regarding a working bee was emailed to families. We are holding it next Sunday 22 June from 8:00-11:00 and hope to weed and mulch our garden beds and tidy up the rainforest area. If you are able to help out, please leave your details by clicking on the link.
Stop Drop and Go Zone: We are still having issues with people parking and leaving their car in the STOP DROP and Go Zone. Please remember that many families rely on this working efficiently and our children's safety is at risk if these expectations are not followed by all. In order to ensure our community is aware of the expectations around this we will be running a poster design competition to design signs that will be displayed on the fence adjacent. The competition is open until Monday 16th June and entry forms can be collected from the office.
Supported Play: This week I went around to classes to inform them of a new initiative we have commenced here at Glenview called Supported Play. Supported Play is a process where students are supported through a number of stages across 3 weeks to learn how to play safely in our school environment. I have included an image below that outlines the 3 stages
Stage 1: Connected The student reports to the Supported Playroom (3E) and does a reflection as well as a check in on how they are going. A teacher then chooses an activity either indoors or outdoors and uses the play to create situations which could then be reflected on. Discussing how it went and what could be done differently.
Stage 2: Bluetooth The student checks in with the support play teacher then takes a behaviour monitoring card out to an identified staff member. The staff member monitors the student then evaluates how the student behaved and then this card is brought back to the Supported Playroom to be checked.
Stage 3: Wifi The student checks in with their class teacher and then takes a monitoring card out into the playground. The staff member on duty will observe the student playing and complete the monitoring card which is then returned to the class teacher. Throughout this process, parents are kept informed how the student is progressing. If all goes well, the student then returns to playing without any additional support. I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact of this program.
Staffing News: I just wanted to let the school community know of some staffing updates. Ross Hill our tireless groundsman for over 20 years for many years decided to retire earlier this term. Words cannot express how much Ross has done for our school over this time!
Our wonderful cleaner Sabrina Schena also will be leaving us with the date of her final day being this Friday, 13 June. Sabrina has gone above and beyond during her time here.
I want to sincerely thank Ross and Sabrina on behalf of the Glenview School community and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
Along with these departures we also have had some permanent appointments.
Christine O'Toole has been officially appointed as our permanent Head of Curriculum! As you would know, Christine has been doing a fantastic job in the role already for over 4 years – her knowledge, support, and calm, can-do attitude have made a big difference over many years across the school. This appointment just makes it official!
Rod Johnston has recently been appointed to Glenview as our permanent groundsman replacing Ross. Rod has certainly hit the ground running and has done a great job keeping the grounds tidy and keeping our junior playground project ticking along.
Thank you all for your support this semester. Glenview is a fantastic community, and it’s been wonderful to see our students living our values—Happy, Safe, Healthy, and Proud!

Premier’s Reading Challenge – House Update!
Our students have been diving into books and racking up their reading minutes as part of the Premier’s Reading Challenge—and it’s time for a quick house update! Each house is doing an amazing job, but there’s still plenty of time to read, record, and rise in the rankings. Here’s what our house captains have to say:
Leeding House – A Message from the House Captain:
"Let’s go, Leeding! We’ve got some fantastic readers in our team, and now’s our chance to shine. Stevens might be ahead at the moment, but I know we can turn the page and take the lead. Pick up a book, log your reading, and let’s show everyone what Leeding is made of!"
Stevens House – A Message from the House Captain:
"Go Stevens! We’re currently in the lead for the Reading Challenge—what a great start! But we can’t stop now. Let’s keep the momentum going by reading every day and logging every book. Together, we can hold onto our top spot!"
Tolson House – A Message from the House Captain:
"Tolson readers, it’s time to make some noise! We may be behind for now, but I know we’ve got what it takes to leap ahead. Grab your favourite book, start a new story, and help our house roar up the leaderboard. Let’s show them what Tolson Tigers can do!"
Every book read brings us closer to success—not just in the challenge, but in building a lifelong love of reading. Keep up the great work, everyone!
SEMESTER 1 REPORTING :What You Need To Know
This year, our school has begun implementing Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum in English and Mathematics. Over the next two years, the remaining learning areas will be progressively introduced as part of this nationwide curriculum update.
As a result, there will be some slight changes to the way we report student progress, and the format of your child's report card will look a little different. One key change is the phasing out of learning area comments on student reports. This information is captured in the Parent Snapshot, which is shared each term. The Parent Snapshot provides a clear summary of your what is being learnt in all curriculum areas and therefore we feel the duplication of this in the semester report is not necessary.
We thank you for your ongoing support as we transition to the updated curriculum and continue to focus on high-quality teaching and learning for all students.
Year 6 Girls Shine at Netball Queensland Gala Day
Congratulations to our amazing Year 6 girls who represented Glenview at the Netball Queensland Primary Schools Gala Day! The team played 9 games throughout the day and came away with an incredible 7 wins. More importantly, they had a fantastic time, showing great sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination.
The improvement from the first game to the last was absolutely outstanding – their confidence and skills grew with every match. We are so proud of each and every player for their effort, enthusiasm, and team spirit.
A huge thank you to Kylie Gurdler and Bec Crack for their fantastic coaching and support. What a wonderful experience for our students!

Choirs Shine at Choral Fanfare

Our Junior and Senior Choirs, conducted by Mrs Chelsea Harry, recently showcased their exceptional talents at the Choral Fanfare competition held at Baringa State Secondary College. The Junior Choir delivered a heartfelt performance that captivated the audience and earned them a prestigious Gold Award. Their dedication and enthusiasm truly shone on stage.
The Senior Choir competed in Division One of the senior category and achieved a commendable Silver Award. Their tight performance and commitment to excellence were evident throughout.
A special mention goes to our soloists: Sunny, Ella M, Isla N, Harlow, Emily, and Gigi. They should be proud of their confident performances.
We are thrilled to announce that the Junior Choir has advanced to the Regional Final, scheduled for Tuesday, 17th June. Let's all wish them the best of luck as they continue to represent our school with pride and passion!

PBL Focus - Keeping the Message Alive at Home
This PBL focus is all about using the Glenview Go-Tos to solve problems respectfully and safely.
💬✋ Our students are learning how to respond to small problems using strategies like walk away, talk friendly, talk firmly, ignore, and seek support. These skills help us solve little problems before they become big ones.

This PBL focus is "We try our best. "We’re encouraging students to approach all tasks with a positive mindset, give their full effort, and remember to check and edit their work. A timely reminder as assessments begin across the school!
